Dongguan Aohai Technology Co., Ltd, as a small technological innovation company covering only 11,334 square meters, after several years of development, has transferred its general business and headquarters to Tangxia. Now the annual tax revenue contribution of Aohai Technology is close to 100 million RMB. Aohai Technology has realized the goal of pursuing large production and high efficiency with less land, which has become a leading technology company in Tangxia.

This is a successful example of fostering a small enterprise introduced from Shenzhen to a big enterprise in Tangxia.

The Committee Secretary of Tangxia Town Fang Canfen used to give a metaphor for this situation: it is similar to introduce good chicks and then bring up them. These platforms and projects are all innovation carrier platforms and projects of technological industry with powerful industrial R&D ability, great ability of transferring the scientific and technological achievements, with industrial production as the base, scientific and technological R&D achievements transfer as the support and new-type industrial park as the cluster platform, attracting the innovative research achievements from Shenzhen to launch in Tangxia. It is estimated that about 2,300 high-tech companies and R&D headquarters companies are introduced.

The headquarters integrating functions like production, product R&D, quality examination, warehouse and logistics, e-commerce, marketing and logistics service can not only increase 10% capacity for the company, but also serves as the important platform and carrier for Yishion to transform and upgrade, as well as realize the transfer of new and old kinetic energy.  

Established in 1997, Dongguan Yishion Group mainly manufactures casual clothes, fashion clothes, business clothes, kids clothes and so on.

As a company for traditional clothing industry, Yishion pays the tax of 750 million RMB every year, which yield per 667 square meters is no less than those of technology companies. Currently, Yishion Group manufactures 120 million to 150 million clothes every year, which business still grows at the speed of 10% annually. This is closely related to the development concept of the company: put R&D and quality first.

According to the introduction by Vice President of Yishion Group Liu Jingzhi, the company set up the R&D Design Department in 2000. Since 2008, the product R&D workshops have been gradually established in countries and regions like UK, France, Japan, Hong Kong of China. A number of international first-class professional R&D talents are hired at high salary by the company. Currently, there are more than 1,100 R&D design personnel in the R&D Design Department, of which over 130 are designers. The annual fund invested in product R&D is 330 million RMB. More than 20,000 styles of products are promoted to the market, as the theme, color, cloth and external design of the products tightly adhere to the future trend.    

At the same time, Yishion follows the trend to adopt machines to replace humans. At the beginning of 2010, the company introduced Gerber computer cutting bed equipment, which greatly guarantees the precise size of products and realizes the maximum use of raw materials. At the end of 2010, the company signed the strategic cooperation agreement of ten years with VI.BE.MAC. from Italy, a global professional and leading company which manufactures jeans production equipment, and introduced the first batch of jeans automatic production equipment which worth over 20 million RMB. After the operation of headquarters, Yishion introduced more advanced equipment, realized the automation of warehouse and logistics, as well as improved the automation level of production part. Yishion Group invested over 200 million RMB to establish the first global classic clothing company professional quality examination center in the country, so as to enhance the strict examination on raw and auxiliary materials and products.    

The current production mode of Yishion is 55% self-production and 45% outsourcing production. Along with the increase of business, Yishion must increase the investment and production. After investing 1.2 billion RMB to establish the headquarters, while planning to expand the production scale, Yishion should also put R&D as the key to sustainable development of the company, plan to build new R&D centers and continue to improve the R&D level.

Focus on both new and old kinetic energy

Transferring the old kinetic energy to new one is a method, while realizing the quality development based on this is the target. How should we look at the relations between new and old in a dialectical way? This is a theoretical and practical issue in front of Dongguan, which needs precise focus and power generation.  

The example of Yishion fully demonstrates that while we accelerate the pace of cultivating the new industry, we should not neglect the traditional industry. Moreover, we should not regard developing traditional industry as a useless attempt. It is not suitable to only put the policy focus of new and old kinetic energy transfer on emerging industry, or just regard it as an attempt to develop emerging industry.

Otherwise, on one hand, excess production capacity in some areas may occur because of excessive support to emerging industry; on the other hand, because of no enough support in the development window stage, some traditional industries may slow down their transformation speed and even be bogged down, which leads to difficult operation, decreasing competitiveness and even outward transfer.    

For Dongguan, traditional industry is a main battlefield for cultivating and expanding domestic market, promoting consumption upgrading and industrial development, which should be reinvigorated through transformation and improvement, so as to lay solid industrial foundation for the transfer between new and old kinetic energy. The new and old kinetic energy transfer is a process of updating, as both the transformation and upgrading of traditional industry and cultivation of emerging industry should be promoted.

Focus on the accelerators from 1 to multiple

During the process of transferring the old kinetic energy to new one, the technological breakthrough from 0 to 1 is the source while the industrial application from 1 to multiple is the result, which are supplementary to each other.

The example of Tangxia fully demonstrates that in terms of choosing the companies of Shenzhen, Dongguan should combine with the conditions of its own development, attach great importance to developing incubators from 0 to 1 as well as attracting accelerators from 1 to multiple, so as to transfer the scientific research achievements of Shenzhen in Dongguan.

It should be clarified that if we focus on R&D and neglect transfer, the transfer rate of scientific achievements would become low; the result of technological transfer would be bad under the circumstance of quick application and slow R&D. These two tendencies are the stumbling blocks for new and old kinetic energy transfer in Dongguan.

For Dongguan, attracting quality resources from Shenzhen doesnt mean that the flowers in the laboratory of scientific innovation are what should be focused on, but the achievements should be transferred to the actual industries promoting the economic and social development, so as to help propelling the success of new and old kinetic energy transfer in this city of manufacturing industry.
