Recently, under the supervision of Fenggang Customs, a branch of Huangpu Customs, 9 tons of zongzi completed customs clearance procedures and were exported to Hong Kong. As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, the demand for the export of zongzi and its ingredients continues to rise. According to statistics, in May this year, a total of 54.9 tons of zongzi and salted egg yolks were exported from the Huangpu Customs area.

Fenggang Customs officers conducted supervision at zongzi production enterprises within their jurisdiction

To ensure the safe and rapid export of seasonal foods, Fenggang Customs has strengthened supervision of zongzi and its raw material production enterprises. They urge enterprises to fulfill their primary responsibilities, strictly control the sources and quality of raw materials, and guide them to enhance their self-inspection capabilities for pesticide and veterinary drug residues. Additionally, they help enterprises improve their quality management systems to ensure that exported zongzi meet international food safety standards. Furthermore, given the strong seasonality and short shelf life of products like zongzi and salted egg yolks, Fenggang Customs has opened a “green channel” service window. This service includes close communication with enterprises, timely research to understand their export needs, and guidance on using facilitation measures such as pre-declaration and inspection appointments to ensure “zero delay” in customs clearance.

Wen Yuhui, the manager of Dongguan Hengfu Egg Products Co., Ltd., said, “The customs supervision measures are very effective. They not only guide us in controlling the quality of raw materials but also provide considerate services. This has made our company pay more attention to the quality and safety of raw materials in the production process and has also enhanced the market competitiveness of our products.”

While zongzi exports are booming, the demand for its raw materials remains strong. Recently, the workshop of Dongguan Huixin Egg Products Co., Ltd. has been bustling with activity. Workers are sorting and packaging various egg products such as salted eggs and salted egg yolks. After being supervised and released by Shatian Customs, a branch of Huangpu Customs, these egg products can be transported to Hong Kong and stocked on shelves within half a day.

“In anticipation of the peak export season, Shatian Customs sent personnel in advance to guide us in inspecting the hygiene of production equipment and workshop facilities, helping us strengthen the hygiene of the factory workshop, employee training, and system management,” said She Jinhua, the head of Dongguan Huixin Egg Products Co., Ltd.

It is reported that to ensure the safe export of seasonal foods, Shatian Customs has been actively engaging with salted egg and salted egg yolk export enterprises within its jurisdiction. They helped these enterprises improve their quality safety management and monitoring systems, guiding them in key areas such as the acceptance of raw and auxiliary materials, production records, and finished product inspection. This enabled full-process management, ensuring traceability of raw materials, monitorability of the production process, and testability of product quality.

In addition to strengthening source supervision, Shatian Customs also promptly provided enterprises with the latest inspection and quarantine requirements and food safety information for export destinations. They guided enterprises to stay updated on changes in technical trade measures. Shatian Customs strictly implemented export food safety supervision, sampling inspections, and risk monitoring plans, strengthening the monitoring of substances such as microorganisms and contaminants in exported egg products to ensure the safety of exported foods.

She Jinhua said, “With the guidance and assistance of Shatian Customs, our company’s egg product export business has been running smoothly. Since April this year, we have exported 1.51 million eggs of various types.”

Tang Ziquan, Director of the Import and Export Food Safety Department at Huangpu Customs, stated, “Next, we will continue to implement timely policies, strengthen communication and cooperation with enterprises, and promptly understand their needs and difficulties. While ensuring effective supervision, we will provide more precise and efficient services to help ensure the safe and convenient export of seasonal foods.”
