Recently, the departure of the “M.V XINYI GLASS” vessel, loaded with 591 containers of glass raw materials and finished products, from the second phase terminal of the Dongguan Port marked the official opening of the “Dongguan Port - Port of Tanjung Bruas, Malaysia” container shipping line. This is another significant breakthrough for Dongguan in addressing enterprise logistics bottlenecks, enhancing the logistics aggregation effect of Dongguan Port, and contributing to the construction of new trade routes under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Malaysia is an important partner of China in the Belt and Road Initiative. The two countries enjoy close and frequent economic cooperation. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. The opening of this shipping line will undoubtedly become another significant link and bridge in China-Malaysia economic cooperation.

It is reported that the container shipping line is currently operated independently by Xinyi Glass, utilizing a 1,400 TEU vessel with a bi-monthly turnaround to ensure the supply chain needs of raw materials and finished products between Xinyi Glass’s factory in Melaka, Malaysia, and China. Dong Qingbo, Vice Chairman of Xinyi Glass Holdings Limited, said, “With the opening of this shipping line, the cost of material transportation between our domestic and Malaysian factories will be reduced from the source, significantly improving the efficiency of our supply chain logistics.”

To ensure the smooth operation of the inaugural “Dongguan Port - Port of Tanjung Bruas, Malaysia” shipping line, Shatian Customs, under Huangpu Customs, closely liaised with companies and the terminal, proactively obtaining information about the shipping line. They supported the integrated use of berths and yards at Dongguan Port, guided companies in fully utilizing preferential and convenient measures, and established a “green channel” to follow up on customs clearance, inspection, and export processes. Using remote video monitoring and ship tracking verification methods, they implemented “embedded” supervision to ensure the rapid clearance of goods.

Lin Tao, General Manager of the second phase container terminal at Dongguan Port, said, “Currently, this container shipping line is independently operated by Xinyi Glass, utilizing a 1,400 TEU vessel with a bi-weekly schedule to ensure the supply chain needs of raw materials and finished products between Xinyi Glass’s factory in Melaka, Malaysia, and China. The Phase II Terminal at Dongguan Port has thoroughly studied the operation process for Xinyi Glass’s 20-foot-high containers and open-top containers, while also strengthening regulatory coordination with customs, maritime, and border inspection authorities. This has ultimately reduced the vessel’s port time to 12 hours, earning high recognition from our customers.”
