Behind the “breakout hit”: 90% of smartphone components sourced within a one-hour supply radius
On June 5, Huawei Terminal’s official Weibo announced that reservations for the Huawei Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Pro+ opened at 10:08 a.m. Within just 2.5 hours, pre-orders exceeded 40,000 units.
This surge exemplifies the sustained market frenzy surrounding Huawei’s new smartphones.
Since last year’s Huawei Developer Conference (HDC), the company has launched a series of pioneering products: the industry’s first horizontally foldable Huawei Pura X, the nova 14 series, and the groundbreaking HarmonyOS-powered HUAWEI MateBook Pro.
The HUAWEI MateBook Pro, in particular, marks the official debut of “HarmonyOS PCs,” representing a critical breakthrough for China’s homegrown operating system in the personal computer market.
According to reports, the development of HarmonyOS PCs involved a five-year strategic effort, mobilizing over 10,000 engineers and 20+ research institutes. This collaboration has yielded more than 2,700 core patents and enabled a complete operating system rebuild – starting from the kernel level. Currently, over 300 cross-platform applications have been adapted for HarmonyOS. This number is projected to exceed 2,000 by year-end.

In 2023, Dongguan’s electronics manufacturing sector exceeded 1.1 trillion yuan in designated-scale industrial output, accounting for approximately one-quarter of Guangdong Province’s total, demonstrating formidable industrial strength and influence.
Taking Songshan Lake as an example: Huawei-led next-generation information technology and intelligent connected vehicle industries are now core components of its “1+4+1+X” industrial framework.
Here in Songshan Lake, sub-sectors like smart terminals have reached the forefront domestically and attained world‑class standards. A full industrial chain has formed around the core of information and communication technology—from equipment production and hardware manufacturing to systems integration, software development, and application services. A review of the full policy text reveals that Dongguan will focus its efforts on two critical areas—“AI + intelligent manufacturing” and “AI + smart terminals”—to enhance the core competitiveness of “Made in Dongguan.” The strategy aims to deeply integrate artificial intelligence with manufacturing, accelerate the innovative allocation of production factors, promote intelligent upgrades in key industries, drive the development of smart products, and collectively foster a new quality of productive forces.

On April 23, the Greater Bay Area (Dongguan) Artificial Intelligence Alliance was officially established in Dongguan. Led by three tech giants—Huawei, OPPO, and vivo—the alliance brought together 18 heavyweight institutions for its inaugural signing. Its first batch of members spans telecom operators, top universities, research institutes, and leading industrial chain enterprises. Dongguan aims to achieve over 10,000 PetaFLOPS (PFLOPS) of schedulable computing power by 2027, create over 100 AI+ advanced manufacturing demonstration scenarios, and attract and cultivate more than 300 key AI enterprises.
At this conference, Zhang Xiuzheng, President of Huawei Cloud China Region, spoke as the representative of the alliance’s rotating chair unit. He stated that as one of the inaugural rotating chair units, Huawei pledges to fully leverage its technological and resource advantages to support the alliance’s development. Simultaneously, he issued an industry-wide call for enterprises to open their AI application scenarios.
