A few days ago, China Unicom NB-IoT (Narrow-band Internet of Things) Nationwide Tour (Dongguan) and Guangdong Industrial Development Conference was held in Dongguan. At the conference, China Unicom and Huawei signed projects with Dongguan ENN Energy Holdings Limited and a number of leading enterprises in the Internet of things industry respectively. The new technologies of the Internet of things would be piloted and designed in Dongguan. Zhang Guanzi, member of Municipal Standing Committee and vice-mayor, attended the conference.
NB-IoT is a kind of wireless communication technology. Unlike bluetooth and Wifi, it is characterized by broad coverage, wide connection and low power consumption. And it’s very applicable to connect a large number of things, which becomes the base of all kinds of applications in smart cities. At present, this technology is being rapidly applied to various areas. For example, most of bicycle-sharing system uses this technology to realize unlocking quickly, positioning and managing.
Zhang Guanzi said, “Dongguan is trying to establish an ecosystem chain of smart city. NB-IoT has been gradually applied in new technologies and new businesses, life scenes like smart home and smart appliances, as well as public services such as intelligent metering, environmental monitoring and traffic management.” He hoped that China Unicom and other industry chain leading enterprises could gather in Dongguan to make positive contributions to create a smart city, smart life, intelligent manufacturing system and industrial ecosphere.
Lang Mantun, the chief engineer in Dongguan ENN Energy Holdings Limited, said to the reporter, “After signing projects with Huawei and China Unicom, our company will try to provide intelligent gas service. For example, by adding a small chip to gas meters, any abnormal trouble will be monitored automatically and reported to the backend. Through this, we can turn off the gas supply remotely to avoid the happening of emergency.”
