On the morning of March 20, Dongguan Municipal Committee of the CPC and the People’s Government of Dongguan Municipality convened the 2019 annual work review meeting. The meeting mainly included the following agendas: reviewing work in 2019, praising extraordinary performance and planning work for 2020 based on new conditions and tasks under the influence of the COVID-19. The entire city was encouraged and mobilized to work tirelessly to achieve victory both in epidemic prevention and control and in economic and social development, and make new headways in the development of “Thriving Dongguan, A Pearl in the Greater Bay Area”.
Dongguan’s economic achievement unveiled
In 2019, Dongguan’s economic and social development demonstrated a sound momentum with steady growth and improvement.
In 2019, Dongguan’s GDP registered at 948.25 billion RMB, up by 7.4% year-on-year, laying a solid foundation for reaching the threshold of one trillion RMB worth of GDP.
Investment in fixed assets witnessed a growth of 17.5%, representing the fastest growth in the past six years.
Dongguan was above the province’s average level in terms of growth in value added in enterprises above designated size, total retail sales of consumer goods and total import and export value.
Dongguan became China’s fifth prefecture-level city with a loan balance exceeding one trillion RMB.
Dongguan remained as the No. 1 prefecture-level city in Guangdong province in the total number of market entities and high-tech enterprises.
Dongguan ranked the third in the country in overall trade competitiveness for three consecutive years and first in the ranking of health index of government-business relations for two years in a row. Dongguan made its way to the top ten on the ranking of comprehensive economic competitiveness among cities in China for the first time.
Dongguan made continuous improvement in social well-being with a batch of projects being completed and put into use. Steady progress has been made in addressing pain points in education, healthcare, old-age care and transport.
The number of seizure and robbery cases dropped by 50% from the existing 80% decline of 2018. Dongguan rose 5 spots on the basis of 4 spots rise in 2018 in terms of ranking of the public’s sense of safety and satisfaction about public security work. The advancement in the ranking markedthe first in the province, a record high.
Dongguan ranked the second for the first time in the performance assessment of the province’s comprehensive governance (safety development).
