Which cities have large net population inflows in China after the Seventh National population Census? According to the latest report released byYicai on 16th December, Dongguan ranks fifth in the latest Top 10 Chinese Cities by Net Population Inflow— only next to the first-tier cities Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Net population inflow refers to the gap between the permanent resident population and the registered population. If the former one is bigger than the latter, it means the city has a net population inflow, otherwise it is net outflow.
With the statistical yearbooks of 2021, statistical bulletins of 2020 and public data released recently by various localities, the report selected 40 large and medium-sized cities whose population inflows were large to calculate their net population inflow. The top ten cities by net population inflow were Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, Dongguan, Chengdu, Suzhou, Foshan, Hangzhou and Zhengzhou.
A similar report released byYicai in December 2020 showed that Dongguan outperformed Guangzhou to become the fourth largest city by net population inflow.
In terms of net population inflow this year, the four first-tier cities Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen rank top four. Specifically, the net population inflows of Shenzhen and Shanghai have exceeded 10 million, but Shenzhen ranks first with a net population inflow of about 11.79 million.
Dongguan, which ranks fifth, has a permanent resident population of 10.4836 million and a registered population of 2.6388 million at the end of 2020, so its net population inflow reaches 7.8448 million.
It should be noted that the gap between Dongguan and Beijing, which ranks fourth, in net inflow population is very small. The net inflow population of Beijing is 7.882 million at the end of 2020, which is only about 40, 000 more than that of Dongguan.
